Carina Washington
Lives and works in Athens, Greece
Washington’s practice began in art therapy classes. Her context being the peace that has come through recovery.
With a significant gap between periods of producing work, her practice has shifted from the need to produce to heal to celebrating where she is today.
Her work celebrates the present, positioning identity as it’s triumphs. It relives the past by relieving it of shame. Unabashed honesty being central to how/why the work is made.
Focusing on depicting key figures in her life Washington has created a series of self-recovery portraits.
